Area Police
Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important representative commented the incident rendered him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
